Eyecare and Nutrition

Eat Eye-Healthy Foods Regularly.

Dark Leafy Greens

These have lutein & zeaxanthin - which are powerful antioxidants called carotenoids that are highly concentrated in the macula, the central part of your retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. They protect the macula from oxidative damage that can lead to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. Examples: Kale (exceptionally high), spinach, collard greens, turnip greens, Swiss chard.

Walnuts

Walnut is a good plant-based sources of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which the body can convert into Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA & DHA), though less efficiently than directly from fatty fishes. These essential fatty acids play a crucial role in the structural integrity of cell membranes, especially in the retina. They are known to reduce inflammation and may help prevent dry eye syndrome, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and even glaucoma.

Berries

Berries come with Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) - a potent antioxidant that helps protect your eyes from damage caused by free radicals. It's vital for healthy blood vessels in the eyes and may reduce the risk of cataracts and slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration. Examples: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.

Nuts & Seeds

They are another powerful antioxidant that protects eye cells from damage by free radicals, potentially reducing the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Legumes

Legumes contain zinc - a crucial mineral that helps bring Vitamin A from the liver to the retina to produce melanin, a protective pigment in the eyes. It's associated with healthy retinal function and may help slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Orange-Colored Fruits & Vegetables

These are source of beta-carotene. These get converted into Vitamin A in the body, which is essential for good vision, particularly in low light conditions (night vision). It helps protect the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye).
